Designed for beginners and those looking to build confidence, the course structure gives you time to develop skills, explore different processes, and create a small collection of your own work. What You’ll LearnWeeks 1–3: Wheel Throwing You’ll begin on the pottery wheel, learning the foundations of throwing. We’ll cover centering, pulling walls, and shaping simple forms such as cups and small vessels. As the weeks progress, you’ll focus on improving consistency and control. Week 4: Trimming & Finishing In week four, you’ll revisit your thrown pieces to trim and refine their shape. You’ll also learn how to add handles and finishing details, transforming your work into functional, considered pieces. Weeks 5–6: Handbuilding In the second half of the course, we move away from the wheel and explore handbuilding. You’ll work with slab and coiling techniques to create pieces such as plates, trays, or sculptural forms, with a focus on structure, creativity, and surface detail. What’s Included: - All materials, tools, and firings - Bisque firing 2 thrown pieces and 2 hand building pieces. Anything extra you want to keep will be an added charge of £10 per kg. There will be some restrictions on the amount of clay you will use for your handbuilding projets due to kiln space we can not accomodate large sculptures/ large flat surfaces (no more than 25cm) - Small group teaching with individual guidance. - Your pieces will be bisque fired and ready for glazing after the course. If you would like to learn how to glaze your pieces yourself, this is offered as a separate add-on session, which can be booked once your work is ready. This allows you to return and finish your pieces with colour at your own pace. Who It’s For: - This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to refresh their skills. No prior experience is needed. A relaxed, supportive environment with plenty of guidance throughout. This course is about learning, experimenting, and enjoying the process of working with clay.
