Service Description

Learn how to make 2 handbuilt side plates and 2 dinner plates. Create your own beautiful set of handmade plates in this relaxed and creative workshop. You will learn how to make two side plates and two dinner plates using slab-building techniques, with step-by-step guidance throughout the process. Perfect for beginners and those with some clay experience, this course will introduce you to the fundamentals of handbuilding while giving you the opportunity to create functional pieces for everyday use. We will also explore a range of surface decoration techniques, allowing you to add your own personal style and unique finishing touches. By the end of the workshop, you'll have a set of handcrafted plates ready to be glazed and fired, creating pieces you'll enjoy using for years to come. 15 minutes before the lesson finishes will be spent cleaning your work area and tools. After your lesson, your work will be glazed and fired which may take up 4-5 weeks to complete. Your work will go through two firings. The first firing will reach 1000 degrees and the second will reach 1250 degrees in my electric kiln. Having a maximum of 6 students in the class is a great way to ensure that each participant receives plenty of guidance and attention from the teacher. This allows for a more personalised and hands-on learning experience, which is especially helpful for beginners or those who wish to review pottery techniques. The price of this lesson includes pre-lesson preparation (preparing clay, rolling out slabs for the vases), tuition, the clay you use and glazes, two separate firings and the additional time it takes to finish your pots (Trimming and glazing). As plates are larger pieces, they require more drying room in the studio and take up considerably more space in the kiln during firing. The course price reflects these additional materials and firing costs, while ensuring you leave with a beautiful handmade set of four plates to enjoy at home. We will need at least 3 people booked onto this class for it to go ahead.
