HAND BUILDING TASTER WORKSHOP
Service Description
A taster class in handbuilding pottery is a great way to get started with pottery and explore the art of creating clay objects using your hands and basic tools. Handbuilding pottery involves shaping clay by hand rather than using a pottery wheel. There will only be 6 participants in this lesson making it feel more like a private tuition class as opposed to a large group. This session is mainly aimed at beginners but if you have worked with clay before and want to review techniques/methods, this is a perfect lesson for you too!. The class will begin with an introduction to the materials and tools used in handbuilding pottery. The teacher will then demonstrate how to prepare the clay for handbuilding. This typically involves wedging or kneading the clay to remove air bubbles and make it more malleable. You will be taught a few handbuilding techniques in this lesson. 3 pieces will be kept from this session. 15 minutes before the lesson finishes will be spent cleaning up and reviewing your pieces. You will then be shown a selection of glazes for you to choose for your pieces. After your lesson, your work will be glazed and fired which may take up 4 weeks to complete. You will then be able to collect your pieces from my studio. Your work will go through two firings. The first firing will reach 1000 degrees and the second will reach 1250 degrees in my electric kiln. PRICING: When you sign up for a pottery lesson in my studio, you're getting much more than just a few hours at the wheel, you're investing in a full, enriching experience. Here's what goes into the price: Materials & Tools: Clay, glazes, tools, and kiln firings all add up. I only use high-quality materials so your pieces are durable and beautiful. Small Class Sizes: I keep classes small so everyone gets hands-on, personalized instruction. This ensures a more supportive, less rushed learning environment. Studio Time: Lessons include access to a fully-equipped studio. Behind the scenes, that also means maintenance, cleanup, and preparing the space for a creative and safe experience. Expertise: You're learning from incredible potters with years of experience in ceramics. I pour time and energy into designing each lesson to be approachable, skill-building, and fun! Firing & Finishing: Each item you create requires 2 firings, careful handling, finishing time and glazing which we take care of for you after class.
