Service Description

June 22nd 10am-1pm Introducing a brand new workshop to the studio! Join us on June 22nd for a unique pottery experience. Learn how to throw miniatures off the hump on the wheel and create beautiful, intricate pieces of art. Our expert teacher will guide you through the process, making it suitable for all levels of experience. This is a 3 hour workshop focusing on throwing off the hump. Students will also learn how to add a variety of mark making and textures to their work. Working "off the hump" involves centering a large amount of clay on the wheel and then pulling off smaller portions to create individual pieces. This method can save time and clay, as it reduces the need to constantly stop and restart the wheel for each new piece. It also allows for the efficient production of multiple small pieces. This method requires patience, practice, and attention to detail. Each throw offers an opportunity to improve and refine your shapes, even if the focus isn't on producing lots of work. Yael Rosenburg will be teaching this class. Yael is a skilled ceramicist focusing on beautiful elegant shapes mainly in porcelain. She adds a wide variety of textures and mark making to her work which she will also be teaching in this lesson. Up to 4 pieces can be kept in this class (5cmx5cm maximum). Having a maximum of 6 students in the class is a great way to ensure that each participant receives plenty of guidance and attention from the teacher. This allows for a more personalised and hands-on learning experience, which is especially helpful for beginners or those who wish to review pottery techniques. All pieces will go through 2 firings reaching up to 1250 degrees. Finished pieces can be collected up to 4 weeks after your 4th session. PRICE INCLUDES The price of this lesson includes pre-lesson preparation, tuition, the clay you use and glazes, two separate firings and the additional time it takes to finish your pots (glazing).
