SOLD OUT This 4 week course (2 hours per session) will guide you through techniques on how to make 2 hand-thrown tea/coffee tumblers (without handles) and 2 hand built side plates. 3 sessions will be spent on the wheel and 1 session will be spent hand building. You do not need to have any prior experience before joining this course, it is for beginners but also potters wishing to review their methods in throwing and hand building. I will be teaching techniques that I have written in my book which will be published later this year! I will only be teaching 3 students at a time so this class is more of a one -to - one tuition with me which means you will get lots of guidance throughout. 15-30 minutes will be spent cleaning the wheel at the end of the session and reflecting on what we have made during the class. Week 1: Learn how to make cylinders on the wheel. Each cylinder will be cut in half to check how thin/thick the walls are so we can progress and perfect your technique. No work will be kept in this session. Week 2: Learn how to make simple cylinder shapes for 2 small tea/coffee cups . Week 3 : Turning. Finish off your pieces by using trimming tools to shape the sides and bases. Week 4 : Learn how to make 2 side plates using a slab building technique. This course will not cover glazing. After your 4th session your work will go into the kiln for its first firing. Melisa will then glaze your pieces for you and fire them at their final firing of 1240 degrees in her electric kiln. There will be a selection of glazes to choose from. All materials, plus 2 kiln firings are included in the price.
