POTTERY CLASSES

Welcome to my pottery classes!

I have taught pottery in my studio hidden behind a wonderful antique shop on Honor Oak Park high street for 7 years now and have been working with clay for 16 years!. These fun interactive classes are a great way to bring friends, families and like minded people together, allowing a short amount of time to de-stress, have fun and to express yourselves creatively.

I am sure you will enjoy these sessions as much as I do teaching them!

Taster classes

A fun filled 2 hour session on the wheel learning how to make a few simple shapes.  3-4 pieces will be made in this session, but at the end you will get to choose your favourite 3 pieces to keep and will be able to choose from 5 glaze colours

Collection of your pieces will be 3-4 weeks after your session.

4 week classes

This 4 week course will provide you will lots of guidance and techniques on the wheel. Repetition is key to understanding how the wheel works. This will be our main focus on this course. The course will also provide you with the confidence to take your skills further in progressing into a variety of  shapes.

You will also learn how to trim and finish your work ready for its first firing.

WORKSHOPS

I have 3 wheels in my studio so there will be lots of guidance and tuition making it feel more like a one to one session!

MY STUDIO

All lessons are taught by me (Melisa) but I am very excited to announce that starting from September this year Xanthe Maggs will be teaching a Friday evening Taster workshop on the wheel! All of her classes are available to book now!

Xanthe is a ceramicist specialising in wheel thrown tableware. She learnt to throw whilst studying in Japan as part of her design degree and subsequently undertook a pottery apprenticeship at North street potters in London. She now works from her shared studio making work to sell at markets and online. Her ceramics are simple in form, often featuring expressive mark-making.
As well as teaching adults Xanthe works part time as a primary school pottery teacher.

First timer. I made three pots which I am very proud of! Melisa has the passion and skill for her craft, and the patience to teach me how to throw my first bits of clay and create useable things. Totally recommend – I may do more of this. The glazing will be done by Melisa.
